"Who" is Alex?

Alex is our first Rhodesian ridgeback who has showed us the charm, beauty and uniqueness of this race; He brought the best to our life - himself!

When we decided for this race, we hesitated for a long time whether to choose immediately a standard or a non-standard dog; There was just one reason for hesitation, after previous experience with Belgian sheepdogs I was too scared of how will the upbringing, training and socialisation of RR look and I was afraid that by my nurture I could spoil something and the dog would be bred despite the fact that it is a misbehaved bastard.

So the decision to get to know and to learn how to work with RR on a non-standard individual was final for me!

The choice was clear and immediate unambiguously we chose Alex! Alex has charmed us by his friendly nature, heart-shaped head, big ears and the desire to be ours.. he did whatever he could so that we chose him and believe it or not - it was not a difficult job for him! Right at the first meeting with him I knew that this was the dog I was looking for.

Alex's full name is Alex Bohemia Vampirelli, it is a dog with the document of origin and was born 19th September 2002, Karel chose his name after a character from the film ''Clockwork orange''. Since we thing that even if a dog is a non-standard one, we, as its owners have to know everything about his medical state - he underwent examination of hips, elbows and thyroid.He has DKK and DLK with the result 0/0 and the examination of thyroid negative! He is a healthy dog full of life..

Since the very beginning of his life with us I tried for some training.. it was horrible and tiring! Alex used to refuse to work when I wanted, he nearly stood on his head during work in rain, he was annoying and a very nasty dog! Alex hardly passed the first and lowest level of service exams because he thought that he does not need any exams or a referee to obey. It was a hard work! I admit that he got proper ''spanking'' more than once, I also admit my mistakes and all the things I ''perpetrated on Alex''. Luckily everything bad is good to something and spanking, insults, caressing and praises have found their use and after two years everything was won...

Apart from service and hunting training we devote our time with Alex also to coursing!! Basically only because of him we founded the Moravia-Silesian association of coursing and now we are happy because we can give our dog as much ''running after a tuft'' as he wants. All Alex's successes and failures on a coursing course are listed separately in the reference Alex and coursing. Alex is a very skilful racer and we are proud of him! Currently, Alex is 4 years old! It is a dog that is not only in our eyes the best and the most beautiful, Alex is Mr Dog and none in the world can disprove this to us!
